Many people do not understand that the removal of tartar and more generally dental hygiene is one of the fundamental points to ensure good oral health. Tartar is not only an aesthetic problem, but in reality it is also dangerous, because it feeds the growth of bacteria. In this way, tartar can cause periodontitis, bleeding gums, or even tooth necrosis, which can compromise the health of healthy teeth and cause them to fall out. Tartar also causes halitosis. Tartar is the calcified form of the plaque, it is generated essentially when the plaque remains long enough to transform into something similar to stone. It is formed in places that are difficult to reach when we use the simple toothbrush, such as between the teeth, and in areas close to the gums. These areas are more or less free of oxygen and saliva so bacteria can easily attack the plaque.
Minerals are deposited in what is basically an organic network, and as saliva and oxygen cannot penetrate this network, tartar is generated. Once tartar is formed, it cannot be removed only with a toothbrush, you have to go to the dentist for professional cleaning.
Prevention of the formation of tartar
Homemade and rigorous oral health care is a good start, and for many it is about enough to prevent tartar formation. However, some people are more likely than others to develop tooth tartar, often due to the lines and grooves on the tooth enamel. To remove tartar, these people should rely on dental cleaning or tartar removal performed by a dental hygienist or dentist.
The optimal frequency for professional dental cleaning
Hygiene should be done regularly, and for some patients it also means three or four times a year. Smokers and people who like to drink coca cola, coffee and tea are considered to be at high risk for the development of tartar.
What is teeth whitening?.
Teeth whitening is an aesthetic practice that aims to make the teeth whiter and brighter. There are operations that can only be performed by professionals: cosmetic dentists and dental hygienists. However, there is a way to perform the treatment at home (home kit), but before starting you must always consult a qualified dentist, the bleaching is not permanent, but its effects last for at least 6 months. However, this depends on the lifestyle and diet that you follow. Red fruits and red wine do not help to maintain the effects of the practice just described for a long time. Coffee, tea, alcohol and cigarettes are also to be avoided.
What are the veneers?
Dental veneers are very thin porcelain, ceramic or resin lamellae, which are cemented directly on the single tooth permanently.
When are porcelain veneers used?
The veneers are used only in a healthy tooth with only aesthetic problems, when you want to correct small imperfections (chipping, slightly crooked teeth, discolored teeth), the facets, that is special prostheses can be applied directly on the single tooth to improve its aesthetic appearance masking their problems.
Some cases that indicate the use of veneers:
- teeth with shape anomalies
- discolored teeth
- diastemi (space between the teeth)
- fillings with tooth color defects
- teeth with enamel defects etc.
