This is the most known and traditional type of orthodontic braces. When we talk about orthodontics, we certainly think of fixed metal braces, with its metal arch shape and its small attachments, the tiles. The metal arch follows the shape of the dental arch, and the tiles are glued on each tooth.
This way, the metal braces exerts a force on the teeth attachments to adjust the alignment of the teeth. The classic and traditional type is called "edgewise".
The advantages
They are the most efficient and classic solution for tooth alignment problems and bone problems.
The disadvantages.
- Requires tooth cleaning after each meal.
- Irritation or small blisters on the cheeks and lips (over the period where you're getting used to the braces).
- Certain types of food must be avoided, such as gums and candies, which stick to the braces and teeth.
The aesthetic braces are similar to the "edgewise" orthodontic appliance in form, function, and differ only aesthetically from the classic type. The applied tiles are of a transparent material (it is sapphire or acrylic) or of the color of the teeth (brackets or ceramic tiles). Arches can also be transparent or tooth-colored.

The disadvantages
- It is not suitable for all cases of orthodontic intervention.
